Classes

We offer programs in Kung fu, Tai chi, fitness kickboxing, Sanshou kickboxing, and nutrition. Our classes offer a fun way to workout and get fit, helping you to become stronger, tone your muscles, and increase your cardiovascular endurance. We also incorporate basic self defense training and situational awareness to help you to be able to defend yourself should you have to.

We also help to improve your self-confidence, focus, and discipline through our traditional training methods. Striving to push yourself to learn a new movement or set goals in your training can assist you with setting and achieving goals in your day to day life.

As a school dedicated to the health and well-being of everyone, safety is our number one priority. Contact us today to schedule an appointment and get started! Follow the links above and you can find more details about our individual classes.

The Salute

In Chinese martial arts, the salute is an important way to show respect to your master and your senior students. It is performed by making a fist with your right hand, and your left hand remains in a palm with your thumb tucked in. Touch the knuckles of your right hand to the inside of the knuckles on your left hand and you have performed the salute!

There is a meaning to the salute: your clenched right hand represents power, and your open left hand represents control. So, by putting them together you are representing balance and harmony. Also, remember to keep your left hand thumb tucked in, because that represents yourself and by doing so, you humble yourself before others.

The Sash

The students of the Liu Institute International show their progress in the art by the color of the sash they wear. Each color sash is a stop along the way to the ultimate goal of Shaolin pre-discipleship-Golden Black Sash. Requirements for each sash differ between Kids, Teens and Adults. For younger students we have requirement sheets available at the school.

Your progress starts with your black intro sash. With each progress check you will receive a stripe on you sash. After you receive your 3rd stripe you will test for your next color sash that same month week. The progression toward Golden Black Sash goes like this: Black-White-Yellow-Orange-Green-Blue-Red-Purple-Brown and Golden Black. If for some reason you miss one check or sash exam, please see an instructor to arrange for make up so as to not to delay your progress.

Testing happens on a monthly basis, with larger Quarterly tests every 3 months. Quarterly testing is alternately held in Mobile and New Orleans, and the purpose of it is to bring our student body together as a Shaolin family, so everyone can demonstrate their skills in a supportive environment.
